I have suggested a 25 man roster draft, but I realize that some GM's may want to have a bit of a say in their minor league system as well, so I also propose a 30 man roster draft, allowing the CPU to then fill out the rest.
The Amateur Draft I hope to also do live and will pause the season for as long as needed to make sure that can happen.
Some people want to do a live draft and while I think that would be neat to do in an AOL chat conference, I also see it getting a bit confusing and difficult. I am willing to try it out for the first few rounds to see how well it works if you all are. It is going to take lots of cooperation and you all will have to be organized if it is going to be done in a timely manner. Meaning, you should all have the lists of players at your ready so that if somebody takes the player you want, you are ready to scan over who is left to make your selection.
I have proposed a 2-3 minute time limit per pick that starts once I state that you are on the clock. After a person makes a pick I have to do something with Mogul to register the pick for the team and then come back to AIM. Then I will tell the next team they are on the clock.
If we get around 30 teams picking, 2-3 minutes means a round could take at least an hour. Doing five rounds a day will mean about 5 hours at the bare minimum. Do you all have that kind of time? Will the draft only have to take place on weekends so that everyone can have the time to spend?
Another suggestion is a "block" draft which I am not familiar with. Another GM explained it to me, so perhaps they should post that idea here and explain it all to you as well. Basically I think it is that 5 teams at a time submit to me a list of five players on a list that they want to pick, ranked highest to lowest in terms of who they want. When their pick comes, I draft for them the highest rated player on that list. If none are on the list anymore, I IM them and ask them to make another choice.
If you GM's have any suggestions or ideas, NOW is the time to post them and get them out there for discussion.
